It’s advancing care for better lives!

With your support, Calgary Health Foundation is shaping the future of preventive medicine.

Instead of waiting for illness to occur, advances in precision health and genomics allow us to focus on prevention—identifying risks earlier and intervening sooner.

Each year, thousands of Albertans are diagnosed with inherited genetic conditions after symptoms have begun and the disease has progressed. Sometimes these diagnoses come too late for successful treatment.

PreventGene is a groundbreaking pilot project designed to expand access to genomic testing for people who may be at lower risk but can still benefit from early insights. This testing has the potential to support better outcomes in women’s health (breast cancer), cardiovascular health (including aneurysms and heart disease), and mental health through studying how inherited genetic differences affect an individual’s response to medications.

By enabling earlier detection and personalized care, this project can change the health journeys of patients, families, and future generations. The evidence gathered will guide how genomic screening can be responsibly and effectively integrated into broader health programs across Alberta.

Access to this type of testing can save lives.

The need to support healthcare through transformational research and programming is critical, and the impact of these investments is life changing. Because of you, we are creating more firsts in healthcare.
